Personal Message About Cancer and Chemotherapy Treatment

For most people the word cancer creates fear and confusion. These feelings can also apply to the chemotherapy and radiation therapy used in treatment of the disease.  Most people are uneasy about the treatment and potential side effects.  Particularly hair loss.  This is only natural, it is not an every day thing happening to you.  For most of us, it is clearly an event for which we are unprepared.  But, you can take an active role by learning about your treatment, taking charge of those areas within your control and everything in your power to participate in your own recovery.

The logic is simple.  Your medical health team is taking the best possible care of your physical well being.  Now, it's up to you to do the things that will help you "feel" good about yourself.  The positive attitude you have about yourself carries over to help you through your therapy.

It is most important to remember that what you are feeling is very natural. And, even if you think your feelings are out of proportion, that doesn't make them any less real.  Many cancer patients report being more concerned about the potential hair loss from cancer treatment than they are about the actual diagnosis of cancer.  If that's what you are feeling, you're normal.  Hair is an overall appearance.  It's your frame, and often times your outward definition of yourself.  The thought of losing that part of yourself can be very difficult to handle.

Now is the time to take charge of your appearance.  Discover the many options available to you that can help you deal with this temporary side effect of your cancer treatment.
